Modelling of the Oil Spill in M/V LADY TUNA Accident and the Evaluation of the Response Operation in Simulated Condition with PISCES II.

Abstract: Oil pollution from ships is an important source of marine pollution and becomes an important problem all over the world. For this reason, every effort should be made to prevent oil spills and to remove them effectively as soon as pollution has emerged. In this respect, various computer simulations are used to get well informed about the fate of spilled oil on the seawater. In this study, the grounding accident of ship M/V Lady Tuna causing 75 tons of fuel spills into the sea on December 18, 2016, close to the … Show more

“…The velocity of the runoff at a given point is produced by linear interpolation of the reference vector value. The spreading of oil is based on the Langrangian model, in which the particles that make up the oil mass are subjected to horizontal motion as a result of the effects of current, wind and diffusion (Delgado et al, 2006;Aydın and Solmaz, 2019).…”

“…During the evaluation of the project in terms of maritime safety, which is one of the factors affecting the zoning plan approval process in the construction and extension investments of the new port by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, it may be necessary to revise the port projects due to the risks arising from the ship maneuver. Various assessment models are used for the assessment of these risks (Fışkın & Nas, 2013;Aydın & Solmaz, 2019). One of the most widely used models is the Environmental Stress (ES) Model Inoue et al (1998).…”

Various assessment models are used for the assessment of these risks (Fışkın & Nas, 2013;Aydın & Solmaz, 2019 Inoue et al (1998). It is necessary to revise the high-risk port projects or to take additional preventive measures by measuring the risk occurring around the ship during the berthing / unberthing maneuvers performed in the simulation environment with the ports and ships that are modeled similar to the port project.…”
