Modeling of Pressure‐Induced Melt Removal Melting in Vane Extruder for Polymer Processing

Abstract: The assembled vane extruder with seven groups of vane plasticizing and conveying units (VPCUs) was designed to study the melting phenomenon and mechanisms in vane extruder. There were two melting stages during the melting process, including the solid-rich melting stage and the melt-rich melting stage, and there were no obvious boundaries between the solids and melts. The pressure-induced melt removal melting was the dominant melting mechanism in the solid-rich stage. The theoretical model of the pressure-induc… Show more

“…The description of the operation of the vane extruder can been seen everywhere. [37][38][39][40][41][42][43] The vane extruder is a type of novel polymer processing equipment that is completely different from the traditional screw extruder in terms of structure. As shown in Fig.…”

“…Liu et al [ 34 ] used low density polyethylene (LDPE) to disclose the melting mechanism in elongational flow induced by vane extruders. The melting of LDPE with varied operation parameters (temperature of the heat unit and rotation speed) was examined dynamically by cooling and disassembling the VE units.…”

“…Compared with screw extruders, VE as a non-screw extruder was designed for polymer processing by Prof Qu . VE consists of several vane plasticizing units, the conveying and plastic mechanism of which is dominated by the dynamic elongational flow [8]. It could remarkably thermo-mechanical history, reduce the energy consumption and improve the blending effects [9][10].…”
