Modeling of hydrogen sulfide removal from Petroleum production facilities using H2S scavenger

Abstract: The scavenging of hydrogen sulfide is the preferred method for minimizing the corrosion and operational risks in oil production facilities. Hydrogen sulfide removal from multiphase produced fluids prior to phase separation and processing by injection of EPRI H 2 S scavenger solution (one of the chemical products of Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute) into the gas phase by using the considered chemical system corresponds to an existing oil well in Qarun Petroleum Company was modeled. Using a kinetic model th… Show more

“…The use of polymeric chemical species as chemical demulsifiers is gaining increasing attention. Demulsifiers formulated from polymers, such as alkene oxides diester, ethylcellulose (EC), Tween non-ionic polymer, and polyester, have been widely studied for the demulsification of crude oil emulsions [81,103,105]. Variation in the concentration of these polymeric demulsifiers has often resulted in different degrees of demulsification efficiency, with the highest demulsification efficiency of 97.5% recorded within 45 min of the demulsification process using a polyester-based demulsifier.…”

“…Hydrogen sulfide is one of the toxic acid gases [5], which not only causes worse corrosion in NG transport pipes and NG storage tanks but also causes health issues, such as paralysis and coma, and death [6,7]. To eliminate corrosion and health damages, the sales NG specifications require that the hydrogen sulfide concentration of NG should be limited to below 6 ppm in China; thus, it is essential that a hydrogen sulfide removal process is adopted [8][9][10][11]. Afterward, the hydrogen sulfide is converted to sulfur using a sulfur recovery unit in natural gas purification plants [12,13].…”
