Modeling of Air Permeability of Knitted Fabric Using the Computational Fluid Dynamics

Abstract: This article concerns the widespread matter of biophysical comfort. In this work, 10 double-layer knitted fabrics with potential application in multilayer garments addressed to a specific group of users, such as newborns, were investigated. The materials were constructed with the following raw materials: cotton, polypropylene, polyester, polyamide, bamboo, and viscose. The textiles with a comparable geometrical structure and different composition were tested for their air permeability. In the experimental part… Show more

“…In addition to aesthetic appearance, comfort is one of the main 2021, Vol. 51 (2) 246-257 properties of clothing. Clothing with poor thermo-physiological wear characteristics not only affects the well-being of humans, but also impairs the physical performance and may even act as a health hazard.…”

“…The purpose of the work is related to the important problem of thermal comfort [20], and it is a continuation of work on modeling physical phenomena related to the ergonomics of clothing [21][22][23][24][25]. In this work, studies over problems of footwear thermal insulation were presented.…”

“…In research described in earlier articles [14][15][16][17][18][19][20], the physical properties of clothing textiles were modeled using simulations of physical phenomena in 3D models of real textiles. These models were designed in the Solidworks CAD software based on the geometric parameters of actual textiles, determined using SEM images, which were analyzed with the ImageJ software (see "First approach of modeling" in Figure 2).…”

“…The work reported in the current article is related to the important problem of thermal comfort and is a continuation of the work on modeling physical phenomena related to the ergonomics of clothing [14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. In these related six articles, the physical properties of clothing textiles have been studied based on simulations of physical phenomena using 3D models of real textiles.…”
