Modeling farmers’ decisions on tea varieties in Vietnam: a multinomial logit analysis

Abstract: This paper analyzes households' choice on tea varieties in Vietnam by using a multinomial logit model. The modelling takes into account the issue of unobserved individual heterogeneity and the endogeneity of some explanatory variables (use of chemical and organic fertilizers). The results show that important factors influencing the decision to adopt one type of tea varieties include income, age, household size, farming contract, and use of organic fertilizers, but also membership of professional associations s… Show more

“…According to Nguyen- Van et al (2017), marginal effects present a better picture and more meaningful results regarding the magnitudes of the impact of individual probabilities. Hence, we are concerned with the marginal effects of variables that influence household heads' decisions to adopt machinery and row planting.…”

“…The multinomial logit selection in equation ( 3) estimates coefficients and marginal effects of factors explaining adoption of ISFM technologies. The discussion is, however, based only on the marginal effects (Table 3) since it is more convenient to interpret them [48]. From the results in Table 3, the marginal effects significantly differ across ISFM technology choices.…”
