Summary A worldwide shift headed for a greener and low emissions will necessitate remarkable advancement in the way in which the energy is being produced and used. The factors such as climate changes induced by pollution, progressively more strict emissions norms for vehicles, depletion of petrol/diesel along with instability in their prices for transportation systems, play a vital role in the improvisation of technology involved in conventional vehicles. The hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are on the peak of the list of choices available for clean vehicle technologies. The various architectures of HEV, different methodologies of hybrid vehicle, are focused in this paper. The design criteria and optimization techniques with reference to the driving cycle is also elucidated. The various electric drives used for HEV are discussed in this paper. Also, the different electric propulsion systems are explained. To improve the fuel economy and emission of hybrid power system, control strategies are very significant. Researchers concentrate in optimizing the performance of HEV.

Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicles (mild-HEVs) earned market share over the last years an as effective roadmap to limit air pollution in big cities. In addition to this role, hybrid propulsion can be used to avoid dry clutch overheating in mild-HEVs equipped with automated manual transmissions. Indeed, high thermal level could result in serious damaging of dry clutch linings with very fast decay of expected lifespan affecting vehicle reliability. This paper shows results of vehicle launch simulations to highlight how the propulsion due to electric motor can effectively reduce clutch thermal stress during the slipping phase.

Reduction of non-renewable sources of energy and the ecological state of metropolises have become the cause of the search for optimal solutions for introduction of energyefficient and environmentally friendly technologies for urban bus transport, which is the purpose of this work. A review of environmentally friendly buses has shown that electric buses (electrobuses) are the most perspective. However, rapid replacement of all the buses with electrobuses is impossible because of their high cost. A comparative analysis of the operating costs of different types of buses of the same destination and class has been carried out in order to choose the optimal variant. Thus, one route of 4.23 km in length was chosen in Kharkiv (Ukraine). Experimental and calculated data showed that a minibus converted into an electrobus is the most acceptable means for urban passenger transportation. Ultra-capacitors are suggested as an energy source. The conceptual diagram of the model of such a bus is presented and the technical requirements for its components are determined. The data and proposals are useful for Ukraine and for countries with low economic development that cannot quickly replace old diesel buses with new, environmentally friendly, electrobuses. The results of this work are the basis for further research and development.
