Model predictive control scheme with active damping function for current source rectifiers

Abstract: This study presents a model predictive control (MPC) with active damping function for current-source rectifiers (CSRs). Since optimal modulating vector selection process of MPC leads to spread harmonic distribution in pulse-widthmodulated (PWM) waveform, inductor-capacitor (LC) resonance can be easily excited. Conventional MPC was designed without the consideration of active damping, since it is for low-power CSRs with large line resistors physically connected inside the circuit, whereas the proposed scheme ac… Show more

“…Many delay compensation algorithms with T s delay have been proposed to remove the adverse effect of the delay time in conventional MPDPC [16,21,22]. As the computing time t c1 (0.091752 ms) provided in the experimental results is close to T s , it adopts these delay compensation algorithms with T s delay to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.…”

“…Equation (16) shows that P(k + 1) and Q(k + 1) are determined by P(k), Q(k), f p (k − 1) and f q (k − 1). Similarly, the active and reactive powers are regulated by choosing OSS at time instant k, P(k + 2) Q(k + 2) can be expressed by P(k + 1), Q(k + 1), f p (k) and f q (k).…”

“…In recent years, as a heuristic non-linear control method, model predictive control (MPC) has been frequently researched in the field of power electronics and power drives due to its simple and flexible control characteristics [1][2][3][4]. The authors [5,6] have investigated the application of MPC strategy to 2-level voltage source inverters (2L-VSIs) and motor controls.…”

“…Then, all the VVs of the 2L-VSI are substituted into (3) to predict the current at (k + 2)th instant, and all the predicted values are further substituted into the cost function given in (4) to select one optimal VV that can minimise (4)…”
