Model independent analysis of the forward–backward asymmetry of top quark production at the Tevatron

Abstract: We perform a model independent analysis on qq → tt using an effective lagrangian with dim-6 four-quark operators, and derive necessary conditions on new physics that are consistent with the tt production cross section and the forward-backward (FB) asymmetry (AFB) measured at the Tevatron. We also propose a new FB spin-spin correlation that is strongly correlated with the AFB, and discuss possible new physics scenarios that could generate such dim-6 operators.

“…Assigning the quantum numbers to SM quarks: q L , t R , b R to be triplets of SU(3) 1 and (t, b) L , q R triplets of SU(3) 3 , we derive the couplings of G µ to quarks to be (the Z 2 symmetry is explicitly broken by the quark charge assignments, so that the G µ is unstable) 10) and the corresponding couplings of G µ to quarks are…”

“…We interpret the discrepancy between the Tevatron A tt FB data and the SM expectations as originating from heavy NP. (For previous relevant works see [11][12][13][14][15][16], and for a review of various NP models see e.g. [17].)…”

“…Some comparative studies between them have been performed, too [29][30][31]. In addition, there exist several analyses in terms of effective operators, which are valid only for heavy new physics [6,[32][33][34][35][36]. The effective Lagrangian can, under the assumption of decoupling new physics, be derived from the direct description in terms of extra fields, as done explicitly in Ref.…”
