We computed the bottom-quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron in the Standard Model and for several new physics scenarios. Near the $Z$-pole, the SM bottom asymmetry is dominated by tree level exchanges of electroweak gauge bosons. While above the $Z$-pole, next-to-leading order QCD dominates the SM asymmetry as was the case with the top quark forward-backward asymmetry. Light new physics, $M_{NP} \precsim 150$ GeV, can cause significant deviations from the SM prediction for the bottom asymmetry. The bottom asymmetry can be used to distinguish between competing NP explanations of the top asymmetry based on how the NP interferes with s-channel gluon and $Z$ exchange.Comment: v3: Bug found in FeynRules 1.6.1 (not present in current version, 2.0.24) One plot corrected. New colour octets stand out among the new physics proposals to explain the anomalous forward-backward asymmetry measured in tt production by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron. We perform a fit to tt observables at the Tevatron and the LHC, including total cross sections, various asymmetries and the top polarisation and spin correlations, to find the most likely parameters of a light colour octet to be consistent with data. In particular, an octet coupling only to right-handed quarks gives a good fit to all measurements. The implications from the general fit are drawn in terms of predictions for top polarisation observables whose measurements are yet not very precise, and observables which simply have not been measured.

We study contributions of a scalar diquark particle in a color representation of anti-triplet and sextet to the top quark pair production at the Tevatron and the Large hadron collider (LHC). The model can give Forward-Backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron while can avoid the same sign top quark production at the LHC by assuming the top-number conserving diquark couplings. We study compatibility between the large positive FB asymmetry observed at the Tevatron and non-observation of the charge asymmetry at the LHC, by including contributions from the single and pair production of diquarks. We find that the whole parameter space of the models can soon be explored at the LHC by measuring the total tt production cross section and the inclusive charge asymmetry with smaller uncertainties. In addition, we compare the statistical significance of the charge asymmetry measured at the LHC with that of the optimal observable of the sub-process FB asymmetry, and find that they are comparable even when we ignore the uncertainty in the parton distribution functions.
