Model for Rapid Assessment of Vulnerability of Office Buildings to Blast Using Swara and Smart Methods (A Case Study of Swiss Re Tower)

Abstract: Accidental and intentional explosions are incidents often destroying buildings and leaving casualties. As a result of these blasts all over the world, demand of safe constructions with less vulnerability to explosions is rising. A large number of office buildings are built each year in many countries, housing large numbers of staff and clients, and due to specific nature and function, activities and services, these buildings are usually centrally located. Their architectural form being vital, therefore the art… Show more

“…SWARA method originally proposed to select sound dispute resolution method (Kersuliene et al, 2010). Later, this method has been successfully implemented to assess the vulnerability of the office buildings to the blast (Nakhaei et al, 2016b). Another aspect of the application of the MCDM framework is the selection the appropriate method to rank the considered alternatives.…”

“…Medineckiene et al [87] presented a new multi-criteria decision-making technique to select criteria for building sustainability assessment. Nakhaei et al [88] presented the model to assess the vulnerability of buildings against explosion. The MCDM approach was used very often for the solution of problems related to the construction technology area of research.…”

“…The weights of the criteria represent the degree of the influence of the particular criterion on the final ranking of the alternatives. The weight determination problem was considered, applying consistent and gradual pairwise comparison of criteria corresponding to influence in the SWARA method [76][77][78]. The SWARA method is governed by experts' evaluation concerning the importance of the criteria [77].…”
