Model-Based Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithm With Constant Power Generation Capability and Fast DC-Link Dynamics for Two-Stage PV Systems

Abstract: In this paper, a model-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is presented for a two-stage grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system, where the loci of the maximum power points (MPPs) is specified accurately based on a new formulation. In this formulation, the effect of both irradiance and temperature is taken into consideration, whereas the irradiance is estimated to reduce the cost of the system and enhance its reliability. Furthermore, constant power generation (CPG) is integrated with the develo… Show more

“…Renewable energy sources (RESs) are gaining prominence worldwide as a response to urgent environmental challenges caused by fossil fuels. For instance, global warming, the nature destruction, and water contamination that lead to worst climate impacts 1 3 . Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have emerged as a feasible answer to address the increasing global electricity demands.…”

“…This modified technique improved both the dc output power and reduced the equilibrium time for reaching the constant state output under variable weather conditions. However in spite of having enhanced steady state response, the system suffers from lack of robustness, training and tuning of membership functions [19]. A novel approach to design an efficient MPPT technique based on sliding mode controller (SMC) is proposed in [20].…”

“…However, operating SPPs at the MPP is a very challenging task because they have nonlinear current–voltage ( I – V ) and power–voltage ( P – V ) characteristics depending on environmental conditions 4–7 . To cope with this situation and assure stability, the proposed effective approach can be defined as two‐stage control scheme 8,9 . First, the MPP of PV module is determined.…”
