Abstract

This paper describes the Digital Oulu Cultural Database, a webbased multimedia database containing information about the local culture of the city of Oulu in Finland. The main focus of the paper is on the use of the application on mobile devices. Features of the system include multi-device browsing interfaces, which enable the use of the system on both personal computers and mobile devices, and the transcoding of media to fit the named terminals. The mobile version of the application was empirically tested in a field trial, and additional data was collected by logging actual use.
