Bed management is one of the most crucial tasks in a hospital. A desktop-based (PC) information technology system has been widely adopted to assist this operation. The fixed location and the limited amount of available PCs shared among staff for different routine tasks can cause delays in bed information updating and therefore delays to the bed management processes. With the penetration of smartphones, a mobile-based application becomes a reliable alternative solution for bed management to complement the existing system. Smartphones offer a few benefits, especially mobility because users can update the information from any place and at any time. Our aim was to study the applicability of a mobile-based application for assisting bed management operation. The application consisted of ward-based bed information visualization, bed information updating, and ward information updating modules. Observation and interviews with expert users were performed to outline the required functions of the application. On a Likert 1-5 scale, the mobile application achieved a mean score of 3.45 for usefulness, 3.40 for ease of use, and 3.42 for satisfaction. Meanwhile, the respondents were also concerned about the mobile data consumption of the app, which took up 45.8% of the negative feedback. On the positive side, the respondents agree that the mobile application helps them in the bed management operation.

The management of the increasing number of patients affected by cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic chronic diseases represents a major challenge for the National Health System (NHS) in any developed country. Chronic diseases are indeed the main cause of hospitalization, especially for elderly people, leading to sustainability problems due to the huge amount of resources required. In the last years, the adoption of the chronic care model (CCM) as assistive model improved the management of these patients and reduced the related healthcare costs. The diffusion of wireless sensors, portable devices and connectivity enables to implement new information and communication technology (ICT)-based innovative applications to further improve the outcomes of the CCM. This paper presents a telemedicine platform for data acquisition, distribution, processing, presentation, and storage, aimed to remotely monitor the clinical status of chronic patients. The proposed solution is based on monitoring kits, with wireless Bluetooth (BT)/ Bluetooth low energy (BLE) sensors and a gateway (i.e., smartphone or tablet) connected to a web-based cloud application that collects and makes available the clinical information to the medical staff. The platform allows clinicians and practitioners to monitor at distance their patients, according to personalized treatment plans, and to act promptly in case of aggravations, reducing hospitalizations and improving patients’ quality of life.

Stroke, in 2014 to mid-2015 is the first cause of death in Indonesia. The condition of stroke patients whose movements are limited is exacerbated by the psychic condition of patients who are unable to communicate pressure will cause obstacles to the healing process of the patient. This research is designed based on the five planes of user experience which are divided into five areas: strategy, scope, structure, skeleton, and surface. This communication board is operated using the patient's fingers so that it is comfortable for everyday activities. The result of Mobile Finger Communication Board implementation shows that application usability level seen from perception and ergonomic point of view shows satisfaction index of the user at the satisfactory level so that it can be said that the system works with the satisfactory result of the users. It is expected that with the Mobile Finger Communication Board which will be used daily to support the healing process of stroke so that the healing rate of stroke is increasing.
