Mobile display technologies: Past developments, present technologies, and future opportunities

Abstract: We describe here the design of a simple and compact scanning tunnelling microscope based on the principle of an inertial slider mechanism. The Z feedback which adjusts the tip-sample gap separation is applied to the coarse movement piezo unlike the conventional method of applying it to the four quadrants of the tip scanning piezo. This method produces better stability in addition to eliminating the requirement of four high voltage amplifiers. Several simple features incorporated in the sample stage improve the… Show more

“…The full‐scene display is a comprehensive and various display service, which encompasses a wide range of devices and environments. It is used to meet the requirements of different users and applications, with multiplatform adaptability (e.g., wearable device display, [ 1 ] mobile phone display, [ 2 ] vehicle display, [ 3 ] etc. ), multiapplication coverage (e.g., medical, [ 4 ] entertainment, [ 5 ] building, [ 6 ] etc.…”

“…Even rollable OLED TVs were demonstrated in the consumer electronics show 2018 (CES2018) [ 42 ]. On the other side of the small-size display applications, higher density of pixels, narrower bezel, flexibility, bendability, rollability, and low power consumption have been achieved along with enhanced picture quality [ 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 ]. The latest smartphones contain the bezel-less screens of larger pixel densities than 450 pixel per inch (ppi) and smartphones with foldable displays are being sold on the market [ 49 ].…”

“…As a result, the display power consumption continues to increase, which has a significant impact on the battery life of the mobile product. 1 Thus, a low power consumption display solution, using an RGBW pixel arrangement, has been previously developed. [2][3][4] One of the simplest reasons of RGBW's saving-power property may be the high transmittance coming along with a white sub-pixel that passes the entire visible spectrum.…”
