Mn(II), Co(III), Ni(II), Cd(II) and Cu(II) Complexes of 2‐Thenoyltrifluoroacetone: Syntheses, Structures, Photoluminescence, Thermal, Electrochemical and Antitumor Studies on Dalton's Lymphoma Cells

Abstract: Five complexes [Mn(ttfa)2(py)2] (1), [Co(ttfa)3] (2), [Ni(ttfa)2(en)] (3), [Cd(ttfa)2(bpy)] (4), and [Cu(ttfa)2(py)] (5) {where Httfa=2‐thenoyltrifluoroacetone} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV‐Vis and single crystal X‐ray diffraction data. Both oxygen atoms of ttfa chelate with the metal ions forming six‐membered C3O2M chelate rings in the complexes. In complexes 1–4 the metal ion adopts a distorted octahedral geometry while the complex 5 is distorted square pyramidal. In … Show more

“…To know about the apoptosis induction of A549 cells by the oligomers we studied the cell apoptosis assay using annexin V‐FITC/PI staining by flow cytometry. Early stages of apoptosis cells showed Annexin V positive and PI negative, whereas in case of late stages of apoptosis both were positive (Figure ) . The chain length effect on apoptosis/necrosis induction is illustrated in Fig.…”

“…Both complexes show significant advancement over previous reports against DL cells especially complex 2 with IC 50 value of 5 μM. [26][27][28][53][54][55][56][57] electrochemical studies reveal remarkable activity of complexes towards OER. High OER activity and high stability of complex 2 under OER operative environment as compared with complex 1 can make complex 2 a promising candidate to replace the highly expensive noble metal-based catalysts.…”

“…We evaluated the in vitro cytotoxicity of newly synthesized complexes and all components involved in synthesis of complexes on DL cells by using an MTT assay as reported previously. [26] The results obtained show that salt cobalt acetate, free ligands Haftt and Haptt, and complex 1 and complex 2 reduce cell viability in DL cells (Figure 7). All the complexes induced cytotoxic response in a concentration-dependent manner.…”

“…This could be the reason for the non‐fluorescent nature of complexes 4 – 5 which contain Ni II ions. However, few Ni II –Schiff base complexes have been reported which show fluorescence properties , …”
