Xe136+Pb208reaction: A test of models of multinucleon transfer reactions

Abstract: The yields of over 200 projectile-like fragments (PLFs) and target-like fragments (TLFs) from the interaction of (E c.m. =450 MeV) 136 Xe with a thick target of 208 Pb were measured using Gammasphere and off-line γ-ray spectroscopy, giving a comprehensive picture of the production cross sections in this reaction. The measured yields were compared to predictions of the GRAZING model and the predictions of Zagrebaev and Greiner using a quantitative metric, the theory evaluation factor, tef. The GRAZING model p… Show more

“…Mass-energy distributions of the 136 Xe + 208 Pb reaction have been measured [17,18]. The reaction 136 Xe + 244 Pu was used to produce and study the decay properties of the neutron-rich isotopes 243 Np and 244 Np [5].…”

“…However, difficulties exist in modeling these reactions due to their timedependent non-equilibrium nature. The portioning of excitation energy between the final fragments [3,[24][25][26], the amount of irreversible energy dissipation as opposed to excitation of collective modes, conversion of angular momentum to intrinsic spins of the final fragments [27], influence of transfer [23,28,29] have all been subject to experimental [15,[30][31][32] scrutiny with often less than satisfactory comparisons [3,33]. Part of the complication arises from the model dependence of the experimental analysis.…”

“…However, extending to the heavy mass domain and even to island of superheavy stability, it is limited by the neutron abundance of projectile-target systems in the fusion-evaporation reactions. The MNT becomes a way to produce the neutron-rich heavy isotopes in nuclear chart [4][5][6].…”

“…The fragment formation in the projectile-like and target-like region was investigated thoroughly. Recently, more measurements have been performed at different laboratories, e.g., the reactions of 136 Xe+ 208 Pb [34,35], 136 Xe+ 198 Pt [36], 156,160 Gd+ 186 W [37], 238 U+ 232 Th [38]. It has been shown that the MNT reactions are feasible for producing new isotopes.…”
