α-Particle Transfer Via the (C12,

Abstract: By utilizing particle-identification techniques to detect the two breakup a particles from 8 Be, we have studied the reactions 12 C( 12 C, 8 Be) 16 0 and 16 O( 12 C, 8 Be) 20 Ne. The ( 12 C, 8 Be) reaction strongly populates the positive-parity four-particle, four-hole rotational band of le O based on its 6.05-MeV (0 + ) state, and both the positive-and negative-parity rotational bands of 20 Ne based on its ground-state (0 + ) and 5.80-MeV (1") state, respectively.

“…1 for the response of the second detector as function of the total fragment energy. It should be noted that the present data do suffer from the well-known fact of misidentifying Be as Li [17]. For the nitrogen-induced reaction, nearly the full cone of the two rticles from the Be decay fits into the detector, f where for the neon-induced one approximately one-hal of all Be will be misidentified.…”

“…The population of this state has been interpreted as a two-step process in which the 12 C target is first excited to the 2 + 1 state at 4.4389 MeV, followed by the transfer of an α-particle [16,18]. Thus, the 12 C( 13 C, 9 Be) 16 O reaction shows the same selectivity as other α-transfer reactions; 12 C( 6 Li, d) 16 O [6,8,15,17,19], 12 C( 7 Li, t) 16 O [16,20,21] and 12 C( 12 C, 8 Be) 16 O [7,22,23].…”
