Mixed monolayers of pmas with poly(styrene‐b‐methyl methacrylate) at the air/water interface

Abstract: Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is known to be immiscible with poly(styrene) (PS) in the bulk state. Poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA), poly(propyl methacrylate) (PPMA), and poly(n‐butyl methacrylate) (PBMA) are also known to be immiscible with PMMA (or PS). Therefore, PMAs (PMMA, PEMA, PPMA, and PBMA) are predicted by the mean field theory to be immiscible with poly(styrene‐b‐methyl methacrylate) (PS‐b‐PMMA) in the bulk state. However, the miscibility of PMAs with PS‐b‐PMMA may be different in the two‐dimensio… Show more

“…For MBrec blend, however, two T g values were observed at 8.2 and 55.6 °C, suggesting immiscible blend of Bsh (PBMA‐rich) and Mene (PMMA‐rich). It is reported that PMMA and PBMA are not miscible . Upon UV irradiation, one T g values were observed for all three blends; −6.3 °C for EBrec, 28.8 °C for BBrec, and even 40.2 °C for MBrec.…”

“…It is reported that PMMA and PBMA are not miscible. 42,43 Upon UV irradiation, one T g values were observed for all three blends; 26.3 C for EBrec, 28.8 C for BBrec, and even 40.2 C for MBrec. Further, the T g values increased from 29.0 to 26.3 C for EBrec and 7.2 to 28.8 C for BBrec.…”
