Mitigation of corrosion of carbon steel in acidic solutions using an aqueous extract of Tilia cordata as green corrosion inhibitor

Abstract: The effectiveness of using Tilia cordata extract as a green corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solutions was demonstrated by employing some chemical and electrochemical techniques. The surface morphology of C-steel specimens was examined. The results showed that Tilia cordata has corrosion inhibition characteristics with efficiency of 96% as the concentration of Tilia cordata extract increased to 300 mg L -1 . Charge transfer resistance (R ct ) value increases while both the capacita… Show more

“…The great strength of the EFM is the causality factors which act as an internal test of the EFM measurement validity, with the causality factors the experimental EFM results can be conrmed. 45,46 Fig . 6 shows the current response involving not only the input frequencies, but also the other frequencies which are the sum, difference, and multiples of the two input frequencies.…”

“…1,2 Corrosion of iron and its alloys causes huge nancial loss, especially in petrochemical and oil-gas industries where acid solutions are commonly utilized in various operations, e.g., descaling, cleaning, pickling and oil-well acidizing applications. 3 There is, however, a major risk to use acid solutions without further treatment with corrosion inhibitors because CS is severely attacked by acid solutions. Therefore, the use of corrosion inhibitors is a fundamental method to corrosion of metals in acidic media.…”

“…The values of causality factors obtained in absence and presence of investigated compounds. It shown from the Table that the corrosion current density decreases with increasing the concentration of the investigated compounds with respect to blank and hence the inhibition efficiency increases and indicate that the investigated compounds inhibit the acid corrosion of the alloy through adsorption [32]. …”
