Mitigation and models for determining premiums for natural disaster insurance due to excessive rainfall

Abstract: Natural disasters due to excessive rainfall often cause huge losses in the form of impacts including casualties and economic losses. To minimize casualties, disaster mitigation is needed, while financing for disasters (emergency response) and financing after disasters (rehabilitation and reconstruction) can be carried out with insurance. This paper aims to determine mitigation efforts and insurance premiums for natural disasters. The method as a mitigation effort is studied based on several methods that are su… Show more

“…Indonesia as the largest archipelagic country in the world, with 80,000 kilometers of coastline and more than 17,000 islands, is in the Pacific Ring of Fire which makes Indonesia vulnerable to natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides (Setiawan et al, 2021;Kalfin et al, 2020a;Kalfin et al, 202ob). This geographical position also makes Indonesia vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change, most of which are already being felt, such as prolonged dry seasons, floods and extreme weather (kalfin et al, 2021a;Kalfin et al, 2021b). This has a negative impact on the health and welfare of the population, and threatens the biodiversity and stability of the Indonesian economy, as well as for the agricultural sector which is highly dependent on the climate and conditions of natural resources.…”

“…The synergy between crops and livestock requires technological innovation to be able to lead to high productivity increases, production security, and the conservation of site-specific resources (Lemaire et al 2014). Dryland management should not only be oriented towards commodity-based land-use arrangements, but commodity-based land management should be placed as an integral part of ecosystem management by paying attention to the balance and harmony of ecosystem services (Gebremedhin 2010;Kalfin et al 2021). Molden (2013), explains that ecosystem services reflect the usable functions of an ecosystem.…”
