Misoprostol does not alter the pharmacokinetics of propranolol

Abstract: Summary:Twelve healthy volunteers took part in a randomised, double-blind, balanced, cross-over study to investigate the effect of misoprostol on the pharmacokinetics of propranolol. The subjects took propranolol 80 mg twice daily by mouth plus either misoprostol 400 lAg twice daily or placebo by mouth for 14.5 days, followed by a 2-week washout period, followed by the alternate treatment for 14.5 days.Misoprostol had no significant effect on the t/2, C,,, or AUC of propranolol either after a single dose or at… Show more

“…30 Misoprostol 400 µg twice/day did not alter single-dose or steady-state pharmacokinetics of propranolol given 80 mg twice/day for 2 weeks. 25,29,31 One case report suggested a possible increased prothrombin time after 8 days of treatment with a combination of misoprostol 150 µg/day and diclofenac 400 mg/day. 32 The 39year-old woman was receiving acenocoumarol and various other drugs.…”
