Mismatch repair deficiency increases the transfer of antibiosis and antixenosis properties against Colorado potato beetle in somatic hybrids ofSolanum tuberosum+S. chacoense

Abstract: This is the first report of SHs and their progenies exhibiting both antibiosis and antixenosis against CPB. Resistant SHs are an important step forward in combating this voracious pest of potato. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry.

“…The final goal was to use homeologous recombination to increase the introgression of the genes responsible for the biosynthesis of leptines or other resistance genes and so produce pre-breeding lines resistant to CPB and/or other diseases or pests. The analysis of the level of antibiosis and antixenosis against CPB supports an increase in the introgression of these traits in SHs with MMR deficiency (Molnár et al, 2016; data in Table 2). These data confirm an increase of introgressions in the genomes of two related species, which augments the value of this unique plant material.…”

“…The data on these traits are published (Molnár et al, 2016) or are prepared for publication (data on drought tolerance). In this paper, only the status of the abnormal phenotypes is included in Table 2.…”

“…However, the species is sexually incompatible with S. tuberosum due to different endosperm balance numbers (EBNs) with EBN values of 2 and 4 in S. stoloniferum and S. tuberosum, respectively, although both species are tetraploid (Brown 1988;Singsit and Hanneman 1991;Ortiz and Ehlenfeldt 1992;Cho et al 1997). So, the wild species is difficult to be applied to potato breeding and somatic hybridization could be one of the solutions to overcome sexual barriers for interspecific gene transfer (Bidani et al 2007;Nouri-Ellouz et al 2016) and importance to identify chlorotype with information of chloroplast genome sequences in potato breeding program has increased (Chen et al 2013(Chen et al , 2016Moln ar et al 2017).…”
