MiR-206 may suppress non-small lung cancer metastasis by targeting CORO1C

Abstract: Object: Non-small lung cancer (NSCLC), with a poor 5-year survival rate (16%), is the major type of lung cancer. Metastasis has been identified as the main factor that leads to NSCLC therapy failure. MiR-206 is a metastasis suppressor in many cancers, including colorectal cancer, renal cell carcinoma and breast cancer. However, the role of miR-206 in NSCLC metastasis and the underlying mechanism are still obscure. Methods: Quantitative reverse-transcription PCR (q-RT-PCR) assay was used to detect miR-206 mRNA … Show more

“…The silencing also suppressed the tumor growth in vivo . As a target of several microRNAs, CORO1C promotes cell proliferation, invasion, and migration in non-small lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and triple-negative breast cancer ( Wang et al, 2014 ; Han et al, 2020 ; Liao and Peng, 2020 ). It was demonstrated that knockdown of CORO1C dramatically suppressed cell viability, colony formation, mitosis, and metastasis and promotes apoptosis of gastric cancer cells ( Cheng et al, 2019 ).…”

“…Liao et al found a decrease in the miR-206 levels in NSCLC. The oncosuppressive mechanism of miR-206 is that this microRNA inhibits the development of NSCLC metastases through the negative regulation of the actin-binding protein coronin 1C (CORO1C) [ 91 ]. CORO1C knockdown significantly reduced the ability of cells to grow and metastasize in gastric [ 92 ] and breast cancer [ 93 ].…”
