Minimizing dependency on internetwork: Is dew computing a solution?

Abstract: Since the inception of the internetwork facility, it has been continuously serving as the fundamental backbone of existing aspects, such as cloud, fog, and edge computing. Several application perspectives are in practice that mandate the involvement of application domains including smart retail, transportation, and data analytics. However, the deployed service platforms do not conform to facilitate the minimal and/or internetwork‐free orientation to current paradigms. Hence, to cater this approach, a dew compu… Show more

“…As a feature, Dew computing takes care of determining as to when to use for its services linking with the different layers of the Cloud architecture. It is also important to note that the Dew computing [20] is associated with the distributed computing hierarchy and is integrated by the Fog computing services, which is also evident in Fig. 4.…”

“…This bottom layer of hierarchical resources organization is known as the Dew layer. The purpose of the Dew layer is to cater for the tasks by exploiting resources near to the end-user with minimum internet access [17,20]. As a feature, Dew computing takes care of determining as to when to use for its services linking with the different layers of the Cloud architecture.…”

“…Dew servers collaborate with the cloud for performing tasks such as synchronization, restoring and personalization of dew sites content located in dew computing devices. These last are represented by human-operated computers like desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices including tablets and smartphones [6]. Recent conceptualizations of dew computing envisage an enriched functionality for the layer that goes beyond exploiting the storing/communicating capabilities of dew devices.…”

“…Recent conceptualizations of dew computing envisage an enriched functionality for the layer that goes beyond exploiting the storing/communicating capabilities of dew devices. In [6], the importance of an active cooperation among nearby dew devices for providing tasks execution services is highlighted. In [10], cooperation of such kinds are proposed for IoT data streams processing.…”
