Minimal invasive microscopic tooth preparation in esthetic restoration: a specialist consensus

Abstract: By removing a part of the structure, the tooth preparation provides restorative space, bonding surface, and finish line for various restorations on abutment. Preparation technique plays critical role in achieving the optimal result of tooth preparation. With successful application of microscope in endodontics for >30 years, there is a full expectation of microscopic dentistry. However, as relatively little progress has been made in the application of microscopic dentistry in prosthodontics, the following assum… Show more

“…5 This technique should only be applied when the targeted restorative space (TRS) is the same as the existing teeth. 6 Magne et al introduced a guidance technique, in which silicone indices were made from a wax-up to control the reduction depth. 7 In this technique, the TRS was created after considering the proposed restoration and restorative material.…”

“…Knowing the diameter of the bur used, dentists can create grooves or dimples with certain depth by submerging pats of the bur into teeth surface 5 . This technique should only be applied when the targeted restorative space (TRS) is the same as the existing teeth 6 . Magne et al introduced a guidance technique, in which silicone indices were made from a wax‐up to control the reduction depth 7 .…”

“…Stomatologia minimalnie inwazyjna (Minimal Invasive Dentistry, MID) jest nowoczesną koncepcją w postępowaniu profilaktyczno-leczniczym, mającą na celu zachowanie maksymalnej ilości tkanek własnych zęba. 1 Obecnie dzięki zaawansowanym technikom adhezyjnym i nowoczesnym materiałom odtwórczym możliwe jest uzyskanie trwałego połączenia pomiędzy strukturą zęba a rekonstruującym ją tworzywem. 2 Do powszechnie uznanych i stosowanych metod leczenia w zakresie protetyki stomatologicznej zaliczają się uzupełnienia ceramiczne cementowane adhezyjnie, między innymi licówki.…”

“…When cutting deeper into the tooth structure in order to allow more thickness of the ceramic, this may lead to the exposure of the dentine, which provides a weaker bond and is associated with a higher risk of failure [ 14 ]; it is therefore recommended that the design of preparation must be within the enamel layer as much as possible to achieve greater adhesion. It has been accepted that the ideal veneer preparation depth is 0.3 mm at the cervical margin, 0.5 mm for the middle third, and 0.7 mm on the incisal third [ 15 ]. Also, with cutting deeper into the discolored dentine and increasing the depth of preparation, the discoloration becomes darker.…”
