A stereolithographic template for computer‐assisted teeth preparation in dental esthetic ceramic veneer treatment

Abstract: Objective: This article describes a digital dental esthetic ceramic veneer treatment workflow using a stereolithographic template for teeth preparation. Clinical Considerations: We have presented the case of a 33-year-old woman with dental fluorosis who wanted an esthetic ceramic veneer treatment. A digital smile design was created on a virtual patient, and a virtual diagnostic wax-up was made. Based on the suggested ceramic material thickness, virtual teeth preparation was performed on the diagnostic wax-up. … Show more

“…Each digital arch model was imported into Materialise software (Magics 23; Materialise, Leuven, Belgium), and virtual preparation was conducted on the sample tooth, as described by Gao et al [ 10 ]. Briefly, the labial surface was selected and shifted inward by using the “Offset” tool.…”

“…Computer-guided tooth preparation is developed from the technologies of dental scanners, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software. Guided tooth preparation promotes precisely controlled depths of preparation, and digital spatial analysis facilitates the completion intra-enamel preparation [ 10 – 12 ]. Nevertheless, in regard to discoloured or misaligned teeth, more reduction of tooth structure may be required to improve the aesthetic result, causing inevitable dentin exposure [ 13 ].…”

“…3 A digital tooth-supported template was designed on the virtual model of wax-up by using the bite splint module of the CAD software. 16 The thickness of the template was 1.4 mm uniformly, and the inner surface of the template was the outer surface of the waxup. The template had holes at designated points on labial, incisal and palatal surface of the impacted tooth.…”

“…The digital maxillary template with guide holes was saved as STL file in the dental CAD software and fabricated using a stereolithography 3D printer (ProJet MJP 3600; 3D Systems, Rock Hill, SC) and resin material (VisiJet S300, USA). 16 In order to facilitate the shade selection of maxillary incisors, we restored the teeth 31-34, 41-44 with composite resin (3M ESPE, USA) firstly. And then we selected the shade for the maxillary teeth using shade guides (3D-Master; Vita, Germany; Figure 3).…”

“…Currently, templates have been widely used in the field of dentistry to improve the accuracy and convenience of treatment. [14][15][16] This report describes a digital workflow for the use of an extracted anterior tooth for an immediate provisional restoration. Under the guidance of templates which are designed based on the contour of the natural tooth and the location information of implantation site, the temporary abutment and natural tooth are rapidly milled and linked accurately, and the provisional restoration is precisely fixed in the targeted position.…”
