Minilaparoscopic Appendectomy

Abstract: Background : Minilaparoscopy is considered one of the minimally invasive options available for acute appendicitis treatment, although not always employed in less complexity public health services. Aim : Report surgical outcomes of minilaparoscopy use in acute appendicitis treatment. Method:The study included 21 patients undergoing minilaparoscopic appendectomy with instrumental of 3 mm. The following variables were analyzed: sex, age, body mass index, stage of appendicitis, surgical time, hospital stay, surgi… Show more

“…8 This technique has been evolving since then and there have been several modifications in order to achieve better cosmetic results, reduction in costs, shorter recovery period, and less hospital stay. 8,10 These newer techniques are appendectomy by laparoscopy-assisted approach, two-port laparoscopic approach, transumbilical single-port laparoscopic conventional appendectomy, and transumbilical single-incision laparoscopy-assisted approach. 8,10 Single-incision and single-port laparoscopic appendectomy uses all three ports introduced through the infraumbilical incision and appendectomy is performed as in the conventional three-port manner by performing endocorporeal laparoscopic appendectomy.…”

“…In this study, when adequate and timely countertraction was needed because of severe adhesions or inflammation, a mini-laparoscopic instrument was inserted into the abdomen (usually into the right lower abdomen) to hold the appendix or adjacent structures; this occurred in nine patients. Some studies have reported on a mini-laparoscopic appendectomy using three incisions, including a 5- or a 10-mm conventional port, for treating patients with acute appendicitis [ 23 24 ]. We think that a single-port with a mini-laparoscopic instrument technique can be used as a modified single-port laparoscopic approach for treating patients with appendiceal disease because this technique can result in cosmetic advantages similar to those of SPLS and in better ergonomics than pure SPLS in complicated cases ( Fig.…”
