“…The variations in REE's have been extensively used to study provenance because of their lower mobility rates during weathering and transportation (Bessa et al, 2021; Das & Gaye, 2003; Nair & Achyuthan, 2017; Sahoo et al, 2017; Saibabu et al, 2021; Sandeep, Shankar, & Warrier, 2022). The chondrite‐normalized REE pattern (Figure 5) indicate the enrichment of LREEs with respect to HREEs.…”

“…Similar to the Nethravati River, a geochemical split among finer and coarser sediment is also observed in the floodplain sediments of the Cauvery River, an east‐flowing river draining Peninsular Gneisses (Sensarma et al., 2008) and granulite series (Rajamani et al., 2009). The sediment geochemistry of the east‐flowing rivers (Babu et al., 2021) and west‐flowing rivers of Peninsular India (Babu et al., 2023) also suggests the dominance of mafic to intermediate composition in the finer sediments (Ahmad & Singh, 2020). Further, the average clay composition of Peninsular India Rivers (known as PIRAC) also exhibits mafic to intermediate composition (Babu et al., 2020).…”
