Abstract

PTH l e v e l s w e r e d e t e r m i n e d b y r a d i onormal children were similar to tho68 of normal adult6 ranging frcm mDndetectable to 10 pl: Eq/ml with 75% detectable leweIs. No& levels were road in 2 casen of osteogenesis imperfects, i n 3 Turner's syndrome, and in 3 children with renal stones.Eigh levele of serum IPTH (35 to 250 pl Eq/iitl) were found in children with chranic renal dieease and Fn children withhypocalcemia associated with a variety of syndromes, including congenital obsttive jaundice, hemolytic uremic syndrome, glomed-phriti8,nephotic sgndrome,hamDrThage and nraasive tranafusions, galicylate intoxication, and acute 1eukemia.The majority of normal newborns as well ae newborns with hypocalcemia had non-detectable to low levels of IPTH during the first 48 to 72 hrs. of life.
