Abstract:Background: CD4 T cells help B cells produce antibodies following antigen challenge. This response classically occurs in germinal centers (GC) located in B-cell follicles of secondary lymphoid organs (SLO), a site of immunoglobulin isotype switching and affinity maturation. GC formation requires specialized CD4 T cells, T-follicular helper (Tfh) cells, which localize to follicles and provide B cells with survival and differentiation signals that are essential for B-cell maturation into memory and long-lived pl… Show more
“…The worldwide prevalence is estimated to be 3-207/100 000 and in Sweden 46-85/100 000 (5)(6)(7). The prevalence varies with race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status (5,(8)(9). In order to classify as SLE the patient needs to fulfil four or more of the eleven criteria, based on the 1982 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) revised criteria for classification (10) that include 9 clinical and 2 immunological criteria.…”
JCV DNA was absent in CSF and plasma in NPSLE patients and controls and consequently we were not able to identify any correlation between the occurrence of JCV DNA and type of immunosuppressive medication.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
