“…Burgess 11968, 1971) popularized the technique of using a long posterior flap as suggested by Bichel (1943) and Ghormley (1946). Persson (1971Persson ( , 1974 has renewed interest in using a sagittal incision and two side flaps as suggested by Robb, Jacobsen & Jordan (1965) and by Tracey (1966). “…11,[15][16][17][18][19][20][21] BKA techniques other than the long posterior flap have been developed with the rationale of ensuring adequate soft tissue coverage and avoiding secondary ischaemic tissue complications. Among these, the techniques with two sagittal (lateral and medial) flaps described by Robb et al 22 and Persson, 14,23,24 the 'skew flap' technique 25,26 or the procedure with a medially based flap 27 have all been widely applied with good results. Although the controversies about the optimal type of skin incision for BKA have been ongoing until the present, 18,28 a thorough meta-analysis, which was recently published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews showed that neither the skew flap nor the sagittal flaps techniques confer any advantage over the well-established long posterior flap procedure.…”
