Microwave gas discharge produced and sustained by a surface wave propagating along a cylindrical metal antenna with a dielectric coating

Abstract: The structure of a microwave gas discharge produced and sustained by a surface wave (SW) propagating along a cylindrical metal antenna with a dielectric coating is studied. The SW that produces and sustains the microwave gas discharge propagates along an external magnetic field and has an eigenfrequency in the range between the electron cyclotron and electron plasma frequencies. The presence of a dielectric (vacuum) sheath region separating the antenna from the plasma is assumed. The spatial distributi… Show more

“…Dispersion properties of the ASW for that case have been studied in [13]. Then geometry of such problem would be similar to the geometry of discharge structure studied in [18]. But unlike the case considered in the presented paper the authors of the work [18] have examined the microwave gas discharge sustained by the surface mode propagating along external magnetic field oriented parallel to the axis of applied cylindrical metal antenna with a dielectrical coating.…”

“…They considered a four-layer concentric nanoshell, where the hybridization of the plasmons of the inner and outer nanoshells determines the resonant frequencies of the multilayer nanostructures. The structure of a microwave gas discharge sustained by a surface wave propagating along a cylindrical metal antenna with a dielectric coating is studied in [19]. Theoretical and experimental results associated with the studies of different properties of surface waves in plasma-like medium metal structures have been reported in [20].…”
