Microwave-assisted synthesized SAPO-56 as a catalyst in the conversion of CO2 to cyclic carbonates

Abstract: SAPO-56 crystals were synthesized via microwave heating. The resultant crystals displayed high catalytic activity in the synthesis of chloropropene carbonate from CO2 and epichlorohydrin. The enhanced catalytic activity of SAPO-56 crystals was related to their high CO2 adsorption capacity, small crystal size, and the presence of acid sites.

“…Silico alumino phosphate molecular sieve‐56 (SAPO‐56) was evaluated for its catalytic activity in the conversion of epichlorohydrin to chloropropene carbonate by our group . SAPO‐56 is a crystalline microporous silicoaluminophosphate in which silicon substitutes for some of the phosphorus and aluminum atoms in the structural framework .…”

“…Xie et al [3] has estimated that the longer synthesis times might result in a change in concentration of the template (TMHD), which might favor the formation of SAPO-17 over SAPO-56. Although a portion of XRD peaks of these type of crystals correspond to SAPO-56 with AFX topology, however, we can observe that their integral XRD patterns are not so good as SAPO-56 crystals synthesized with aluminum hydroxide, pseudo-boehmite and aluminum powder.…”

“…In the past few decades, the numerous heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts have been developed for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from epoxides and CO 2 [30][31][32] -such as metal oxides [33], molecular sieves [34], ion-exchange resins [35], nanoparticles [36], alkali metal salts [37], quaternary ammonium salts [38][39][40], transition metal complexes [41][42][43][44], metal-organic frameworks [45], N-heterocyclic carbenes [46], Lewis acids or bases [47,48], ionic liquid [49][50][51][52][53], and so on. Among these catalysts, ionic liquids have been shown to have excellent activity in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from carbon dioxide and epoxides.…”
