Microwave-assisted synthesis of a superfine Ag/AgI photocatalyst with high activity and excellent durability

Abstract: A novel plasmonic photocatalyst Ag/AgI was synthesized via a microwave-assisted irradiation synthesis in nonaqueous media. The sizes and shapes of the nanoparticles were strongly influenced by the microwave irradiation time and the concentration of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) surfactant used in the reaction system. The Ag/AgI nanoparticles prepared using 0.3 mmol PVP at 140°C under microwave irradiation for 5 min possessed diameters of *100 nm. The photocatalytic reaction parameters, such as Ag/AgI catalyst loa… Show more

“…Each etching step lasted for 3 min, corresponding to an etching thickness of about 12 nm. The oxidized Ag signals are attributed to the formation of AgI x , since the new peak positions are consistent with the Ag + 3d peak positions in AgI [41] and the transition region starts from the bottom of the Ag electrode that is in direct contact with the MAPbI 3 film and extends ≈40 nm into the Ag electrode. Figure 3b shows the Ag 3d XPS spectra collected from different depths in the Ag electrode after timed Ar etch.…”

“…The hollow Ag/AgI showed the improved hydrogen evolution ability. Liang et al 12 fabricated superne AgI particles with the assistance of microwave irradiation and PVP. The sizes and shapes of the nanoparticles were strongly inuenced by the microwave irradiation time and the concentration of PVP.…”

“…As comparison, the photocatalytic activities of AgI nanoplates, Au@AgI nanoplates, Ag@AgI nanoplates, and commercial catalyst (TiO 2 , P25) were measured and are shown in Figure S16 (Supporting Information). Depending on the model of pseudo‐first‐order reaction, Figure B shows the relationships between ln( c / c 0 ) and irradiation time ( t ) for the five kinds of catalysts in the system of RhB degradation. Their correlated apparent first‐order rate constants ( k ) are illustrated as the histograms in Figure C.…”
