Microstructure evolution of Al-Si semi-solid slurry by gas bubble stirring method

Abstract: A novel technique of introducing gas bubble stirring during solidification was studied to prepare Al-Si semi-solid slurry. The microstructure evolution of the slurry during slow cooling process after stirring was investigated. The effects of the solidification rate on the microstructure of the semi-solid slurry were investigated under three different solidification conditions. The results show that fine non-dendritic slurry can be obtained using the gas bubble stirring method. Ripening and coarsening of primar… Show more

“…After stirring for a period of time, broken dendrites generated in the initial stage of bubble stirring can be rounded [34], because holding promotes the uniform distribution of melt temperature. In order to reduce the surface energy, broken dendrites will spontaneously develop towards rose-like and spherical shape, as shown in Figure 6a.…”

“…Or it will seriously affect the BF smooth operation and the stability of thermal system. So iron concentrates pretreated by mineral separation process can not be able to be directly used for BF process [3].It is significant for the study on removing tin from tin-bearing iron ore to accomplish the effective utilization of tin-bearing iron ore resources early.…”

“…Semisolid metal forming is one of the advanced metal forming techniques, which has advantages of short forming process, easy deformation, and good microstructure and properties of product, so it has become a hot research topic in the recent years [1]. Flemings proposed firstly semisolid metal processing (SSP) [2,3].…”
