Microstructure and Tensile-Shear Properties of Resistance Spot-Welded Medium Mn Steel

Abstract: Abstract:The medium Mn steels are gaining increasing attention due to their excellent combination of mechanical properties and material cost. A cold-rolled 0.1C5Mn medium Mn steel with a ferrite matrix plus metastable austenite duplex microstructure was resistance spot-welded with various welding currents and times. The nugget size rose with the increase of heat input, but when the welding current exceeded the critical value, the tensile-shear load increased slowly and became unstable due to metal expulsion. T… Show more

“…Emerging methods of manufacturing, new technologies in materials production [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ], and new modeling techniques result in more and more complex machines, subassemblies, and shapes of structural elements in use [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ]. Both the designed structures and the materials used for its manufacturing should fulfill strict standards and expected demands to provide safe operation.…”

“…In the area of the material production still, new materials are issued, starting from very modern composite materials and ending with the new steel alloys [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 38 , 39 ]. The introduction of new materials is accompanied by the development of the more and more complex material models [ 40 ] and fatigue criteria [ 41 , 42 ], which better and better describe the material and structure response under the applied load systems [ 42 ].…”

“…In this paper, a novel refill technique is developed for friction stir spot welding (FSSW) using resistance spot welding (RSW), which is a popular manufacturing method in aerospace and automotive industries [16,17]. To demonstrate the validity of the technique, it is first applied to refill the keyhole created through FSSW of 1.5 mm thick AA2024 aluminum sheets.…”

“…Therefore, by adopting a rectangular terminal electrode, the electrode adhesion and splashing can be effectively reduced, and the connection strength of RSW joint can be increased. However, the welding current [11][12][13], pressure [14], time [15,16], and other parameters [17][18][19][20][21] in the RSW process have significant influence on the nugget dimensions and metallographic morphology of RSW joints. Compared with the traditional electrode, the distribution of welding current and welding pressure in the rectangular terminal electrode is much more complicated [22], which means that the welding parameters have more obvious influence on the nugget dimensions and metallographic morphology.…”
