The impact wear properties of two different contact pairs, N80A valve-cast iron seat insert (cast iron group) and N80A valve-clad seat insert (cladding group), were studied in this work. In this paper, an independently designed tribo-tester combined with a depth gauge and corresponding auxiliary devices can record the axial subsidence of the contact pairs during the entire worn process. The results showed that during the 5 × 106 impact test, cast iron groups and cladding groups followed the worn process curve, and all went through the running-in stage and the stable worn stage. However, at each stage, the subsidence of cladding groups was smaller than that of cast iron groups. The roughness meter not only recorded the roughness of all samples before and after the test, but also can obtain the respective subsidence of the samples through the difference between the profiles before and after the test. The results can be mutually corroborated with the axial subsidence measured by the depth gauge. As a result, the roughness of the sealing surfaces of all valve-seat inserts increased significantly after the impact test. The total worn subsidence of the cast iron groups was about 1.61 times that of the cladding groups. The worn morphology was further studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The cast iron group mainly experienced serious adhesive wear and oxidation wear, while the cladding group mainly experienced fatigue wear, oxidative wear and abrasive wear.

In this study, liquid polysulfide rubber was modified by silane coupling agent. New kinds of anti-corrosion coatings with salt spray resistance and strong adhesion to the steel substrate were obtained using the modified liquid polysulfide rubber, bimetallic filler, carbon nanotubes, and epoxy resin. Infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance confirmed the preparation of new modified liquid polysulfide rubber through coupling reaction between the epoxy group of silane compound and the sulfide group of the liquid polysulfide rubber. A 1440 h neutral salt spray test showed the coating to be completely free of rust and blisters. The corrosion diffusion width of the scribed area was only 1.7 mm. In addition, in a 3.5% by weight NaCl solution, the coating shows no blistering and no corrosion phenomena compared with zinc-rich epoxy paints (the added zinc content was only 28.6%). These tests confirmed that the new coating had a dense microstructure, strong adhesion to the steel substrate, good corrosion resistance, and anti-blister performance. The performance indicates that the coatings have potential for use in the atmosphere and underwater, which provides a better choice for long-term protection of marine projects such as ships, wharves, offshore platforms, and wind power structures.

As a new type of anticorrosive material, basalt flakes (BFs) have been widely used in the marine industry due to their good acid and alkali corrosion resistance and dispersion stability. In this work, the effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) addition on properties improvement of basalt flake epoxy resin (CNT-BF/EP) coating was studied. Firstly, 0–0.7 wt.% acidified CNTs was used to modify the surface of the BFs and the CNT-BF/EP coating was successfully prepared. Experimental results showed that the performance of the interfacial compatibility, the tensile strength, and acid and alkali resistance of the CNT-BF/EP coating were significantly improved with the addition of the CNTs. Particularly, the CNT-BF/EP coating achieved the best comprehensive properties (tensile strength increased to 30.3 MPa, surface weight loss rate of only 1.0 wt.% in the acid environment for 480 h, and water absorption of only 1.1 wt.% after 480 h) when the CNTs addition reached 0.5 wt.%. This work suggests a feasible way to enhance the mechanical properties and chemical durability of the basalt flakes coating.
