MicroRNA-381 suppresses cell growth and invasion by targeting the liver receptor homolog-1 in hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRs) have emerged as prospective tools for human cancer therapy, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) therapy. Previous studies have suggested that miR-381 functions as oncogenic or tumor-suppressive miRs in other cancer types. However, the role of miR-381 in HCC remains unknown. The present study investigated the expression and functional role of miR-381 in HCC. miR-381 expression was significantly decreased in HCC tissues and cell lines. miR-381 overexpression significantly inhibited HCC cell… Show more

“…However, the reported expression patterns and roles of miR-381 in various types of cancer markedly differ. miR-381 has been shown to be downregulated in malignancies and exerts tumour suppressive effects on colon, breast and liver cancer and pituitary tumours (27,(37)(38)(39). In lung cancer, this miRNA has been shown to inhibit cell migration and invasion by targeting LRH-1, where it acts as a prognostic marker (40).…”

“…As one of the miRs, miR‐381 acts a suppressing or promoting role in different malignant tumors . Previous studies have suggested that miR‐381 serves as an oncogenic or tumor‐suppressive miRNA in many types of cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma and esophageal cancer cells . However, there is currently no substantial data that describes the protective effects of miR‐381 on angiogenesis after renal I/R injury in rats.…”

“…18 MiR-381 has been found to be involved in cancer progression, including chondrosarcoma, ovarian cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and colorectal cancer. 19, 20, 21, 22 However, the role of miR-381 in osteosarcoma is poorly understood.…”
