MicroRNA-138 suppresses cell proliferation in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma via inhibiting EZH2 and PI3K/AKT signaling

Abstract: MicroRNA (miR)-138 generally has a suppressive role in various human cancer types; however, its role and the underlying mechanisms in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) have remained to be elucidated. The present study assessed the clinical significance and regulatory mechanisms of miR-138 in LSCC progression. Reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis indicated that miR-138 was significantly downregulated in LSCC tissues and cell lines. In addition, the decreased expression of… Show more

“…Not only is hyperactivation of PI3K/AKT pathway in relation to NPC progression and prognosis [79], but FOXO1, CHL1, PNUTS, VPS33B interacts with NESG1, RBM3, ARHGAP42 and LncRNA ZFAS1 also display their influence on the proliferation, growth, invasion, metastasis, EMT, chemosensitivity or radio-resistance of NPC cells via PI3K/AKT pathway [93]. Additionally, MMP2/3, MEOX2, miR-145 and -138 regulate the growth, apoptosis or migration of LSCC cells by targeting the PI3K/AKT pathway [94][95][96][97].…”

“…Although quite a lot of miRNAs have been reported to play a pivotal role in OA, the specific micro‐environmental factors that are involved in this pathological process have not been fully elucidated. Therefore, researches on the effects of both miRNAs and their potential circRNA regulators on OA progression may help clarify the pathogenesis of OA.…”

“…For instance, circRNA-CER (Circ_100876) serves as a miR-136 sponge, sequestering miRNAs and controlling the expression level of MMP13 and participating in the process of chondrocyte ECM degradation in OA. 23 Although quite a lot of miRNAs have been reported to play a pivotal role in OA, 24 the specific micro-environmental factors that are involved in this pathological process have not been fully elucidated.…”
