Micromixers—a review

Abstract: This review reports the progress on the recent development of micromixers. The review first presents the different micromixer types and designs. Micromixers in this review are categorized as passive micromixers and active micromixers. Due to the simple fabrication technology and the easy implementation in a complex microfluidic system, passive micromixers will be the focus of this review. Next, the review discusses the operation points of the micromixers based on characteristic dimensionless numbers such as Re… Show more

“…Different types of micromixers have been reviewed by Nguyen et al [115] and the relative modeling of flow patterns has been proposed by various authors [115][116][117], together with the summary of the relevant adimensional numbers and simulation techniques. Examples of micromixing schemes are sketched in Figure 5.…”

“…In an active micro mixer, St represents the ratio between the residence time of a species and the time period of its disturbance (Nguyen & Wu, 2005). At Re = 2.4×10 -4 , the main channel in the micro mixer showed a repetitive fluid interface folding pattern right after the side channel, as shown in Figure 4b.…”

“…More specifically, when it comes to biological applications, biological fluids can be damaged by the high temperature gradients produced by ultrasonic waves. [248] In a recent comparative study, Larrea et al analyzed four different approaches to synthesize MNPs. [249] Those four approaches were as follows: (a) mixing by internal diffusion.…”
