A novel method is described of generating stray‐field‐free models of three‐dimensional magnetization distributions. Starting with a model distribution which is stray‐field‐free but in which the intensity of magnetization Ms is not constant everywhere (Ms = f(x, y, z)), a numerical relaxation method is used to obtain a stray‐field‐free solution with uniform Ms. The relevance to some previous experimental observations on single‐crystal nickel specimens is discussed.
