Microfluidic isotachophoresis: A review

Abstract: Electromigration methods including CE and ITP are attractive for incorporation in microfluidic devices because they are relatively easily adaptable to miniaturization. After its popularity in the 1970s, ITP has made a comeback in microfluidic format (μ-ITP, micro-ITP) driven by the advantages of the steady-state boundary, the self-focusing effect, and the ability to aid in preconcentrating analytes in the sample while removing matrix components. In this review, we provide an overview of the developments in the… Show more

“…As demonstrated in the recent reviews on capillary and microchip ITP , applications of this CE mode are much more frequently oriented to determination of small ions, e.g. anionic counterions of basic peptides than to analyses of peptides themselves.…”

“…As follows from the reviews on the recent progresses and applications of CITP and microchip ITP , direct applications of this mode to analytical and preparative separations of peptides are relatively limited. However, ITP or t‐ITP are often employed as preconcentration and/or preseparation steps prior to CE analysis of cationic or anionic analytes including peptides present at low concentrations and/or in complex mixtures.…”
