“…9,10 Recently, intra-arterial embolization has been used in an attempt to identify a definitive therapy in patients with several comorbid factors complicating acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage. 3,11 Embolization therapy, however, presents its own hazards, which may range from ischemia to bowel infarction and/or arterial access-related complications. 2,12 In the new era of minimally invasive techniques, superselective embolization has emerged as a preferential therapeutic option in the management of colonic hemorrhage at Hartford Hospital.…”

“…Arterial embolization is an established treatment option for bleeding from a variety of sources in the abdomen and pelvis 18 . The coaxial microcatheter technique has also been well described to enable selective distal embolization of small vessel bleeding points at various sites throughout the body 19 .…”

“…The patients were all male and of a higher mean age than the overall group (64 years compared to 55 years). [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] In the event of emergency pelvic haemorrhage, we postulate that early consideration should be given to embolization.…”

“…The reported series to date have found embolization to be an effective and safe technique. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] The principal aim of this study was to evaluate the success of therapeutic embolization for acute haemorrhage in the abdomen and pelvis. Secondary aims were to assess the importance of the following variables in determining the success of the procedure: coagulation status prior to angiography/TE; transfusion status prior to angiography/ TE; time from haemodynamic instability until angiography/TE; duration of the procedure; and the embolization technique used Therapeutic embolization for acute haemorrhage in the abdomen and pelvis approach was used on all but one occasion when a false aneurysm on one side and prior surgery on the other side necessitated an axillary approach.…”
