Local recurrence after PTA for early-stage HCC is high in routine clinical practice. Poorly differentiated HCC and pretreatment α-fetoprotein are important, independent predictors of LTP. Further well-designed randomized controlled trials with larger sample sizes using adjuvant therapies in combination with PTA to decrease LTP rates are warranted.

Four cases of extraperitoneal haemorrhage occurring in the setting of anticoagulation or coagulopathy are presented. Treatment of this condition has traditionally consisted of reversal of anticoagulation and supportive therapy. Diagnosis was made on contrast-enhanced computed tomography. The finding of active contrast extravasation was found to be a factor predictive of failure of conservative therapy and, therefore, an indication for angiography and embolization. In all four cases presented in the present paper, the bleeding vessel(s) were identified and significant active bleeding arrested by transcatheter embolization.

A case of an abdominal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pseudocyst in a patient with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt is reported to illustrate this known but rare complication. In the setting of a VP shunt, the frequency of abdominal CSF pseudocyst formation is approximately 3.2%, often being precipitated by a recent inflammatory or infective process or recent surgery. Larger pseudocysts tend to be sterile, whereas smaller pseudocysts are more often infected. Ultrasound and CT each have characteristic findings.
