“…Proteobacteria dominates the core microbiota of fishes [ 9 , 10 , 31 , 38 , 40 ] suggesting an important relationship between this taxon and its hosts. Juvenile common snook share members of their core microbiota, including Vibrio and Ruegeria , with larval common snook [ 41 ], but other members were unique to juveniles, illustrating differences between snook microbiota among developmental stages. Members of the genera Vibrio , Photobacterium , and Psychrobacter are normal inhabitants of marine fish skin [ 31 , 42 , 43 ].…”

“…Indeed, Bacillus probiotics are reported to suppress fish pathogens including Vibrios 12 , 32 . Vibrios were consistently present in relatively high abundances within our systems, and these bacteria are commonly reported as a dominant component of the fish larval microbiota after the start of exogenous feeding 14 , 33 , 34 ; thus a majority of the organisms within this taxon are likely commensal or perhaps mutualistic. Unfortunately, 16S rRNA sequencing is not sufficient to classify some members of the Vibrionaceae to the species or strain level 35 and future studies investigating the influence of Vibrios on larval survival should use techniques capable of distinguishing pathogenic species.…”

“…In Trial 1, 16S MetaVx™ Mammalian sequencing was performed across the V3 and V4 hypervariable regions using proprietary primers and PCR protocols at GENEWIZ, Inc. (South Plainfield, NJ). In Trial 2, the bacterial 16S rRNA genes (V4 variable region) were amplified as previously described 14 . Sequence data from both trials were processed according to the MiSeq Illumina SOP protocol using Mothur v.1.35.1 19 , removing sequences less than 150 base pairs.…”

“…The Vibrio alginolyticus isolated probiotics in shrimp hatcheries have been used successfully from earlier [15]. It has resulted that, probiotics treatments can be effective in growth performance, disease control, spawning, gut activity, and hematological parameters in different fishes such as sea bass [16], rainbow trout [17], snook [18,19], sturgeon [12], and shrimp [20]. This is very important to have brief knowledge about the selection of probionts, use of probiotics, mode of action, safety guideline as well as their characterization [21].…”
