Micro-computed tomographic evaluation of a new system for root canal filling using calcium silicate-based root canal sealers

Abstract: Objectives This study evaluated by using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) the filling ability and sealer apical extrusion promoted by a new Sealer Injection System (SIS; Angelus) with side openings needle, in comparison with the conventional injection system, associated with a new ready-to-use calcium silicate-based sealer (Bio-C Sealer). Materials and Methods Acrylic resin models containing a main curved artificial canal and 3 simulated lateral canals in apical, mi… Show more

“…All included studies in this review used micro-CT for evaluating the amount of remaining filling materials in root canals (7,8,10,11,17,(43)(44)(45)(46)(47). In recent years, micro-CT analysis has gained popularity in volumetric evaluation of teeth as it allows obtaining images with high-resolution and quantitative analysis by differentiating tooth structures, voids and filling materials (52)(53)(54).…”

“…Bio‐C Sealer, TotalFill BC and Sealer Plus BC (MK Life, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil) presented similar percentage of voids, before and after immersion in distilled water or PBS (Torres et al, 2020). Also, Bio‐C Sealer showed an appropriate filling of artificial canals when using different obturation systems (Tanomaru‐Filho et al, 2020). The small particle size and proper viscosity of these sealers may favor their filling capacity, decreasing the presence of voids (Celikten et al, 2016; Wang et al, 2018).…”

“…Images can be graded on both a qualitative and quantitative basis. Analyses of root canal morphology, 59 60 cracks, 61 62 and the shaping, 63 cleaning, 64 and filling abilities 65 66 67 of different systems have been conducted using this technique. Table 1 presents a summary of the information discussed in this article.…”
