Methodology for Homogeneous Dispersion of Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes by Physical Modification

Abstract: Science and technology on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are an expanding field aiming at ascertaining their intrinsic properties and taking advantage of their inviting possibilities. Dealing with CNTs has faced the problem of insolubility in both organic and inorganic solvents due to the strong interaction therein. Here we review the recent progress as well as our approaches to the solubilization of CNTs based on a physical modification method. Especially, the review focuses on the 'individual' solubilization of pri… Show more

“…Pyrenes: In the past decade, pyrene derivatives have been successfully used to stabilize CNTs dispersions, [209] and as in the case of NMP, they have been adopted for UILPE of graphite. [210][211][212][213][214][215][216][217][218] Noteworthy, DSAs suitable for dispersing CNTs with a curved surface may not always be ideal for dispersing graphene with a flat surface.…”

“…DNA would bind to the sidewall of the SWNTs through π-π interactions. 17,25 The DNA-SWNT prepared in this study showed an exothermic generation by NIR irradiation as did the acid-treated SWNTs. A concentration-dependent heat generation was clearly observed for the in vitro and in vivo measurements ( Figures 5B and 6B).…”

“…This is again underscoring the importance of the electron defi cient perylene bisimide core that bears great potential to outperform pyrene derivatives that have been widely applied as nanotube anchor systems. [ 59 ] The difference between the pyrene and perylene bisimide unit and the impact on SWCNT-surfactant interactions is furthermore refl ected in different affi nities towards smaller and larger diameter SWCNTs, respectively. While pyrene exhibits a more pronounced affi nity towards SWCNTs with larger diameters (smaller bandgap), [ 84 ] the anionic PBIs follow the opposite trend.…”
