Methodological approach to creation of the 3D model of an oval-shaped open pit mine

Abstract: A 3D model of optimal contours phased development of oval-shaped open pit mines is proposed in the article. It is assumed that with enough accuracy the volumetric contour of the open pit mine is interpolated by an elongated elliptic hyperboloid. The calculation formulas for mineral resources are derived and optimal volumes of overburden are determined depending on the mining phase. In this case, the total number of mining phases is set in advance. The stripping ratio is used as a quality criterion of the optim… Show more

“…In the first case, it is determined purely geometrically from one centre of mass to another, without taking into account the mining-and-transport complex operation. In the case of simulation modelling [24]- [27], this figure is summed up from the actual distance travelled by the dump trucks from the three points of loading overburden rock, taking into account the number of travels in each direction, which, in turn, also depends on the models of loading and transport equipment [28]- [30].…”

“…Of course, the determination of the boundaries of open pit mining should be carried out taking into account the conditions of stability of the massif of boundary rocks, which are performed by modern remote methods [17,18]. When determining the boundaries of the open pits according to known calculation principles, the economic calculating ratio is calculated according to technical and economic indicators, which are achieved at the time of design and its value is constant [19][20][21].…”

“…However, the existing methods of determining the cutoff overburden ratio [16][17][18] do not take into account the competitiveness of the iron ore products of the designed enterprise in the world market.…”
