Methodical approach for analyzing the impact of a mass introduction of electric vehicles on the electricity networks in Europe

Abstract: Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (EV, PHEV) have the potential to contribute significantly to solving contemporary and future environmental and economic challenges of mobility. Different EU member states are currently addressing the subject in an isolated manner. The G4V consortium consisting of major European electric utilities and distinguished academic institutions are now adopting a holistic European approach to analyze the impact of a mass introduction in detail in order to optimize the grid infrastru… Show more

“…Figure 1 shows the results of the calculations for 200 iterations. A detailed analysis of the influence of iterations on the results can be found in [2]. Moreover, it shows the loading of one line of the grid at one instant of time: The load profiles of the smart meter data and the load profiles of the vehicles have been allocated to the busses at one instant of time.…”

“…With the "EV flexibility aggregation" strategy representing a charging strategy from the Advanced World, the number of overloaded secondary substations is also reduced: As it can be seen from the following figure, the "EV flexibility aggregation" strategy shifts the load from noon and evening to the early morning hours. The main results of all variations and an analysis are available in [2]. Loa d by EVs is reduced, if necessary (4) TOU ta ri ffs with real ti me adjustments (6) IV.…”
