Method of Calculating Short-Wavelength-Ratio-Based Color Temperature Supporting the Measurement of Real-Time Natural Light Characteristics through RGB Sensor

Abstract: The characteristics of natural light are mostly collected through specialized measuring equipment, such as a spectroradiometer, and some suggested measurement methods through a small RGB sensor. However, specialized measuring equipment presents difficulty in its high cost, and the RGB-sensor-based method has the limitation of being unable to measure the wavelength characteristics of natural light that are needed to implement lighting that supports circadian rhythms. This paper presents a method for calculating… Show more

“…According to DIN-5035-7, the light colour in an office environment should be warm white (3300 K) or neutral white (3300 K to 5300 K) [ 29 , 37 ]. The correlated colour temperature under standard lighting was therefore set to 4112 K. The correlated colour temperature of daylight ranges between approximately 5000 and 10000 K [ 38 ], and shows a rapidly changing and unstable pattern [ 39 ]. SC and DC were adjusted to the average colour temperature of a partly cloudy sky at 8000 K. The colour rendering index (CRI) is a measure of the colour rendering properties of a light source [ 40 ].…”

“…Magnusson et al [19] provide a standardized approach for producing realistic colour pictures of HSI. The method converts every observable spectral band to the XYZ colour system, using D65 as the reference illuminant and then converts the XYZ to the sRGB (standard Red, Green, Blue) colour space.…”

“…The effectiveness of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) in social robotics is a big challenge. Research in social robotics is focused on many applications [4], for example in education [5,6], as well as works referring to people with cognitive problems, or special needs, or the elderly [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14], localisation and navigation-giving or asking help to reach a destination- [15], among other various purposes, where a user plays a primary role.…”
